WHAT’S NEW AT WINNERS March 23, 2010

I recently received a nice little booklet from the good gals at Winners outlining hot looks for spring. This is extremely handy for someone like me who tends to be a bit on the daft side when it comes to keeping up with the latest seasonal fashions.

The booklet included the following looks: Military Mode, Frill Seeker, A Pale Tale and Denim Daze. Now you too know what’s hot.

So what caught my eye? Well I would have to say it’s this 1950s inspired satin dress. I betcha I could dig up photos of my mom and my aunts and they would be wearing this exact dress, complete with white gloves and little box purses too.

I just know the neckline of this dress will be extremely flattering on everyone. Plus I like the gathers in the skirt that hide one too many Easter eggs.

The dress is $49.99 at Winners. Don’t be too disappointed if you can’t find it. I’m quite sure you’ll find something equally as pretty and springlike on the racks.

In case you’ve been living under your duvet for the last six months, you know that diffusers are all the rage. Fruits & Passion presents its offering in this category.

The new diffuser, comprised of a delicate flower carved in birch wood coupled with an elegant rounded white vase will complement any room in the home while delicately scenting the air. For the spring season, the flower is available in a selection of three colours—coral, natural and plum—to harmonize with a variety of colour schemes or displayed collectively to create a bright and beautiful bouquet!

The “stem” of the diffuser acts as a natural flower, absorbing liquid from the bottom of the birch wood stem. The petals of the flower then become saturated with scented liquid – due to the wood’s natural porosity – and the sweet fragrance is then emitted into the air. The scented flower generates a gentle and continuous fragrant effect, just like a bouquet of flowers.

The wooden flower will emit its scent for six to eight weeks after soaking for 24 hours – the time it takes for the flower to absorb the scented liquid – and will then begin to diffuse it.

Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp. Has my pirate stepped over the weirdness line in the sand with his new role in Alice in Wonderland? Probably not. I suspect there’s more to come in his eye-colour changing, strange accent roles. But enough about Johnny. Let’s get to the jewels!

If you’re into the whole slightly-creepy but really cool vibe that is Alice in Wonderland, you’re going to be digging deep for some of these baubles. From Swarovski comes a line of jewelry that’s pretty but pricey. But don’t dilly dally! I hear many of these limited edition items are already sold out at Swarovski stores. SWEET LEMON BY THE BODY SHOP March 9, 2010

My mouth actually started to water when I cracked open the package containing the Sweet Lemon line from The Body Shop. I had an overwhelming craving for lemon meringue pie and lemonade. It honestly smells good enough to eat.

This is a fragrance that’s perfect for spring, when we all need a bit of tangy freshness to counteract that grey muddy mess outside.

The products also feature a range of moisturizing Community Trade ingredients such as cocoa butter, shea butter and soy oil which help to support marginalized communities around the world, by ensuring the producers get a fair deal for these high quality natural ingredients. So by caring for your skin, you’re also caring for others.

The line includes lotion, body butter, soap, scrub, lip balm, shower gel and a shower pom pom. Prices range from $3 for the pom pom to $20 for the butter or scrub.

The bad news is that you have to wait until March 15 to pick your lemons. You can make it, I know it.
